Prior to moving to Family Works six years ago, Margie began her working life as a teacher in the Far North. Wanting a new challenge she moved to Balclutha, gained her counselling qualification and was for a period of time a school counsellor. From there she moved to CYF, initially as Family Group Conference Co-ordinator and then as supervisor of Care and Protection teams in Dunedin and Palmerston North. Family bought her back north, where she worked as a CYF supervisor of teams in Kaitaia and Kaikohe. An opportunity became available to return to education, initially as a lecturer in the Social Work degree programme at North Tec and then she took on the role as Programme Manager for Foundation Studies, Adult Education Training and English as a Second Language. Margie, because of her experience and training has “run” a number of in – house Facilitation Training Programmes for all of Family Works Northern to assist staff understand facilitation, group processes and how to deal with conflict. Margie also has a particular interest in complex trauma and its effect on the brain and has attended a number of training programmes in this area. These trainings have enhanced her understanding of the impact that trauma has on adults but also on their children when their family are embroiled in complex situations and are not able to move forward.
